To assist homeowners in preparing for many building projects around the home, we have prepared several packets of information that you may print. If you have any questions please contact our Community Development team at 630-897-1457.
Permit applications, surveys and plans can be sent electronically to cdinfo@northaurora.org. You will be contacted when your permit is approved via phone or e-mail. Payment for permits can be taken over the phone with a debit or credit card. Upon payment, permits will be e-mailed to you.
Building Permit Fees – As of June 1, 2023 the Village’s updated building permit fees went into effect. The updated fee schedule can be found here: Chapter 15.56 Construction Fees
Contractor Registration – As of December 20, 2021 contractor registration is no longer required.

Typical projects that require a building permit include:
New commercial buildings and commercial remodeling, new single-family homes and residential remodeling, roofing, siding, driveways, structural modifications, electrical, plumbing, lawn sprinklers, generators, windows, patios, fences, stoops, walkways, solar panels, additions, signs, swimming pools, hot tubs/spas, three-season rooms, pergolas, gazebos, gas lines and decks.
Typical projects that DO NOT require a building permit include:
Painting, tuckpointing, wallpaper, flooring, appliance repair/replacement, minor repairs, bird feeders, small playground sets, trampolines, baby pools (less than 2 feet of water), patio umbrellas, arbors, awnings, gutters and downspouts, etc.
