Scavenger Hunt

The 2023 Scavenger Hunt HAS BEGUN!

The Village of North Aurora is hosting its fourth Village-wide scavenger hunt where teams will need to solve riddles to find a total of 10 different locations around town.  The 2023 Scavenger Hunt will officially launch with the the first clue on Saturday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. (see below or the Village Facebook).

The Overview

You and your team will solve riddles that identify a public location in North Aurora and also the location of the next clue, which will be a card that features the Scavenger Hunt logo (see below). All cards will look different as they will be colored and cut so they are camouflaged at the locations so please be certain to look for the Scavenger Hunt logo in your search.

Each clue card will be laid out in the following format:

The First Riddle

Like a treasure chest a hidden lake in a field is one of its gems
So too are its paths of which the furthest ‘round may splinter
For a shortcut face west away from the new path of black
Then head in the direction birds go during the winter

Down whichever ever path you choose be careful please,
For as the warnings say: Slippery when wet!
There’s no water here now though, just a small bridge
Cross over it now to where your next clue is set

Hints

Where we’ll post a few hints as we go along for those who get stuck on clues 🙂

𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟏 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
• We will confirm that this location is a Park
• The name of the park (words that make it up) is essentially hidden in a single line in the top portion of the riddle.
• We draw your attention to line #3 and the last four words, particularly the first in that set. Why would we emphasize that word? Can you think of anything that it could be relating to in the Village? (extra hint: we have posted about this on the Facebook. Nearly weekly in fact ;))
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟐 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
If we look at line 2 let’s zoom in on words four and five. If you were to put the word ‘and’ between those two words what’s a place in the Village that would fit that? Second hint: it’s the name of a TV show and we do not have a court house in town so it’s gonna be the other one 😉 Good luck!
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟑 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
Our clues typically have the format of the first section helps you find the location and the second part helps you find the exact clue spot, but this one actually utilizes both sections for each element. Let’s look at line 6: what type of area would that particular creature possibly call home and where does that feature exist in North Aurora? That should help you narrow down some options 😊 A secondary clue: in line 1 there is a word that starts the name of this location (for example, if the word was ‘north’ it could be referencing North Island Park).
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟒 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
Let’s look at line one of this riddle. The Village hosted an event of whose name contained two of those words. Figure out what event that could be and then see where it was held 🙂
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟓 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
We’re thinking you’ve made it to the right place, so we’re going to focus on the second half directing you to the exact spot to find the next clue.
The last word of the third line denotes a place; what would that look like to you? Do you spot any structure in the area that could represent that? Hint: it might be at the end of a path, as the clue denotes, so spread out and look around!
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟔 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
This one was definitely a tricky one to find the location of (although as a reward for finding it the riddle does give you an exact instruction once on site as to where to find the next clue!) if you weren’t super familiar with it. The hint here is the emphasized letter pairs you see, but in this case it’s not what those letters are but look for the pattern they represent (and how many pairs you see per line as that could mean something too!) and see how that could apply to a public location in town. Notice too the word in “” – it’s indicating that item is there but it’s not quite “real” hence the quotes so knock off any areas that have that particular word in your search but be on the lookout for a something that it could be representing.
Secondary hint for Location #6: The name of this location shares the name of of one of the two streets that border it and it starts with the same letter as the park district that owns it.
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟖 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
We don’t want to make it too obvious, so we’ll say that one of the words in the first two lines of the riddle is part of the name of this location (i.e. if the word was ‘island’ it could be referring to North Island Park).
A secondary clue is that a word in the third line could both refer to an action that you may do at an attraction at this location and is also tied to the name of the park for what item it shares a name with and what that item does.
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 #𝟏𝟎 𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐭:
If we’re trying to find this general location and you aren’t too familiar with a feature(s) at said location (denoted in line one), let’s focus on line two. It’s listing off “careers” so to speak of two individuals so we can assume the third person mentioned also holds a similar themed “career.” A second hint to that is the color they describe their friend to be; what’s another word to describe that color that could relate to the above occupation?
