Building Permit Technician
The Village of North Aurora, Illinois (population 18,261) located in Kane County is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Building Permit Technician in the Community Development Department.
The position is responsible for facilitating the building permit issuance process, answering telephone, email and in-person inquiries regarding building permit requirements, inspections, zoning classifications and code enforcement. Scheduling inspections is also a primary function of the position. The position also conducts basic reviews of applications to determine readiness for further review.
Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task and possess excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills. Graduation from high school or equivalent GED required with one to three years of related experience preferred. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of development plans, codes, local agency permit processing regulations and procedures, computer operations, basic math and the ability to obtain a permit technician certification.
The annual salary range for this position is $54,330 to $77,334. The hourly rate range for this position is $26.12 to $37.18 per hour and based on a ten (10) step system. Starting hourly rate and step is dependent on qualifications. The Village offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, life insurance, vacation leave, holiday leave, sick leave, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). The position is a non-exempt position under FLSA and eligible for overtime. There is no residency requirement for the position.
