part-time Information Technology Specialist

The Village of North Aurora is seeking a collaborative part-time Information Technology Specialist. The IT Specialist position will be supervised directly by the IT Manager, and interact regularly with the Village Hall, Public works and Police staff team.  The part-time schedule can be set in cooperation with the IT Manager with flexibility and altered as needed at approximately 25 hours per week.

This is a new job position at the Village of North Aurora and has been designed to work closely with the IT Manager in maintaining the Village-wide computer network systems; assist with installation, configuration, log review, troubleshooting, user support, on LAN and WAN, wireless network, end user computers, smart devices, and telephone systems.

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or a minimum of 3 years IT support experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Valid Driver’s license

Experience and knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Windows 10, 11 and Microsoft Office
  • Network and computer security practices and firewalls
  • Computer hardware equipment and software platforms
  • Computer practices and procedures, terminology and equipment
  • Knowledge of techniques and procedures of software and network support for multiple users

Civil Engineer

The Village of North Aurora is seeking a collaborative civil engineer to join the dedicated Public Works staff team. The Civil Engineer position will be supervised directly by the Village Engineer, and interact regularly with the Streets and Water Utility Superintendents and other Public Works staff.

This is a new job position at the Village of North Aurora and has been designed to work closely with the Village Engineer to supervise the construction of designed improvements to the road network, sanitary and storm sewer systems, water distribution system along with response to various resident inquiries.  This position offers the opportunity to work on an infrastructure projects from early planning stages to completion.  The primary function of this position will be to provide field supervision over construction improvements with secondary participation in planning and design assistance.  Regular interactions with staff, residents, contractors, and other governmental organizations will require excellent communication skills.

Candidates will be required to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or closely related field
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Registered Professional Engineers in Training (EIT) with the State of Illinois, or Licensed Professional Engineers (PE) with the State of Illinois OR desire and ability to get licensed within six months

An ideal candidate will also have

  • Experience with ESRI GIS, proficiency with AutoCad or Microstation and Microsoft office.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of significant experience and knowledge in the field of civil engineering, such as that gained with a Village or City Engineering Department, an engineering consulting firm, other governmental agency, or as a contractor specializing in engineering design and construction for public improvement projects.

Temporary Public Works Summer Assistance

The Village of North Aurora’s Public Works Department is looking for an individual to be part of their temporary, summer seasonal staff.  This position will be responsible for the maintenance of flower plantings including watering, fertilization, and weed removal. This position may also be required to perform light landscaping, mowing, park and roadside trash collection, and other duties as assigned. The position may operate automotive and seasonal equipment including but not limited to light trucks, golf cart-type service vehicles and other Village equipment. Working conditions may include working next to busy roads and some public interaction. Position may be required to work some weekend hours depending on the weather.

Applicants must be eligible for employment in the U.S., possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and pass a pre-employment background check and medical and drug screening.

The hourly pay for this position is $15-$18 per hour dependent on qualifications and the position will work approximately thirty (30) hours per week. It is estimated that this position will work approximately from Mid-May through Mid-October but some flexibility with scheduling will be provided.
