Planner

The Village of North Aurora, Illinois (est. population 18,500) located in Kane County is seeking qualified applicants for the newly created, full-time position of Planner in the Community Development Department, reporting to the Community and Economic Development Director.

The Village of North Aurora is situated along the Fox River and I-88 with Randall Road, Rt. 31, Rt. 25 and Rt. 56 running through portions of the Village’s boundaries. The approximate square miles of the Village are 7.73. The Village has a mix of residential, commercial and industrial uses which have developed into a diversified and strong tax base. The Village has seen very strong growth over the last several years with new residential subdivisions of all housing types, mixed-use developments, new commercial development along key corridors and industrial warehouse development. The Village maintains boundary agreements to guide future land development in a responsible manner and has significant land either annexed or un-annexed available for further development into the future. The Village is also in the process of combining portions of existing TIF Districts into a new TIF District that will help provide assistance for future development.

The Village is seeking a motivated Planner who would be responsible for reviewing building permits requiring zoning review, responding to inquiries regarding land-uses determinations, assist with reviewing and updating the  Village’s Comprehensive Plan, assisting with the analysis and coordination of TIF requests, preparing and processing  special use and variance petitions, preparing materials for Plan Commission and Village Board meetings, assisting with the preparation of text amendments to the zoning code and working with the Village development team. The position will be required to attend monthly Plan Commission meetings and may be required to attend other Village meetings as well.

Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented, organized and able to multi-task, possess excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills and work professionally with developers, Department Heads, staff, elected and appointed officials and citizens of the community.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or related field is required. A Master’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration or related field is preferred.  A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is required, four (4) years of related experience preferred.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and interpret maps, use GIS systems, read and interpret complex zoning codes, annexation agreements and other planning documents.

The annual salary range for this position is $58,677 to $83,450 and is based on a ten (10) step salary schedule.  Starting salary and step is DOQ and the position is exempt under FLSA guidelines.  The Village offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, life insurance, vacation leave, holiday leave, sick leave, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). WATER LABORER

The Village of North Aurora located in Kane County and situated alone I-88 is seeking candidates to fill the full-time position of Water Laborer.  This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of the Village’s water production, storage and distribution system which consists of six (6) active deep water wells, two (2) water treatment facilities, two (2) active water storage towers and one hundred (100) + miles of water main.  Position is required to respond to emergencies off-hours including assisting with snowplowing and other public works tasks when needed.

Primary duties of the position include the maintenance and repair of water mains, hydrants, valves, water meters, and meter-reading interface units.  Position collects water meter reads for billings and assists with the turn on/off of water service as needed.  Position assists with the repair of water main leaks, and the repair and maintenance of the water treatments facilities and water wells.  Assists with snow plowing efforts during the winter and maintenance of the Village’s storm and sanitary sewer systems.  Candidates in this physically demanding position must be prepared to work under difficult conditions including extreme weather and confined spaces.  Candidates must have excellent customer service skills, communication skills, attention to detail, develop positive working relationships with contractors, residents and village staff and be able to work well in a team environment.

Position requires a Class B-CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain one within six (6) months.    Applicants should also possess the ability to operate heavy-duty tools and equipment including a backhoe, loader, bucket truck and other similar equipment.  Position also requires a Class C water operator’s certificate or ability to obtain one in a reasonable time period of approximately eighteen (18) months.  Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.  Three (3) years related work experience preferred.

Street Division Laborer 

The Village of North Aurora located in Kane County and situated along I-88 is seeking candidates to fill the full-time, non-exempt position of Street Division Laborer in the Public Works Department.

This position performs a variety of tasks related to the repair, replacement and maintenance of the Village’s streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure, street lights and signs.  Position is also responsible for assisting the Village in providing various village services including seasonal leaf pickup, tree maintenance and trimming, snow plowing and ice control, assisting with facilitating logistics for special events, maintaining Village buildings, property and rights-of way and providing other services to the community as needed.  Employees in this position are part of an on-call rotation required to respond to emergencies after hours if necessary.

This position is responsible for operating various vehicles and equipment including five-yard dump trucks, six-wheel dump trucks, backhoes, endloaders, skidsters and other types of vehicles and equipment.  Candidates must possess a Class B-CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements, or have the ability to obtain one within six (6) months.  Candidates must have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, develop positive working relationships with contractors, residents and village staff and be able to work well in a team environment.  Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with one to three years of related work experience preferred.
