North Aurora Police Department Accepting Applications for Lateral Transfer Officers


The North Aurora Police Department, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking certified, experienced lateral transfer officers and applications are now available.

The North Aurora Police Department provides policing services to over 19,000 residents within our 10 square mile community.  The department is proactive, working aggressively and consistently to identify and resolve problems and other issues to improve the quality of life within our community.  We are a community policing department and hold many public events which are intended to build relationships with the community that we serve.

North Aurora offers:

Þ A starting salary of up to $76,615 (step 4) for lateral transfer officers and annual step increases.  Top pay after June 1, 2021 is $94,786 (step 8).  Officers are represented by the Metropolitan Alliance of Police (MAP) and the current contract is in effect through May 31, 2022;

Þ Health, dental, vision, life insurance plans, retirement savings, pension plan;

Þ Patrol currently works 12 hour shifts (every other weekend off);

Qualifications:

Þ Be a current, sworn, Illinois municipal police officer, county sheriff’s deputy, or Illinois state trooper who possesses a State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for one year after completion of a probationary period and currently in good standing at the police department in which the person serves, or in laid-off status due to financial restraints only.

Þ Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a current North Aurora Police Officer.

Þ Possess a valid driver’s license.

Þ Reside within a 25-mile radius of the village limits within 18-month probationary period.  

Þ Candidates must be able to pass an extensive background investigation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, medical exam, and drug screening prior to getting hired.
