Police Investigating Fatal Crash


North Aurora, IL – On July 20, 2020 at 8:31 a.m., officers of the North Aurora Police Department were dispatched to Mitchell Rd. at Bilter Rd. on the Village’s east side for a traffic crash.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a red Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 49 year old North Aurora woman was traveling southbound on Mitchell Rd. and attempted a left turn onto Bilter Rd and struck a green GMC Sierra pickup, driven by a 35 year old Aurora man, which was going northbound.

The driver of the Elantra was pronounced deceased on the scene and the passenger, a 67 year old North Aurora man was transported to Delnor Hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics and later airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the GMC was not injured.

The names of the involved drivers and passenger are being withheld at this time, pending the notification of next of kin.  No citations have been issued and there is no indication of drugs or alcohol being involved at this time.  The crash remains under investigation.

Mitchell Rd. was closed to traffic for approximately 3.5 hours while investigators documented the scene.  The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART) and the Aurora Police Department Traffic Division assisted with the on scene investigation and the North Aurora Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management provided traffic control assistance.
