ROLL CALL

Staff in attendance: Sue McLaughlin, Bill Hannah, Jim Bibby, Atty. Kevin Drendel, Mark Bozik, Mike Glock.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS
Keith Nadler, 740 Butterfield Road. Mr. Nadler asked why temporary signs can not be installed closer than 60 – 70 feet from Butterfield Road. Nadler asked why businesses are not allowed to place the signs at this proximity if North Aurora can do so during North Aurora Days. Nadler asked if a variance could be given. Nadler asked how it was determined that a request can only be made “3” times a year for these temporary signs.

Trustee Herwig mentioned that for North Aurora Days a special permit is obtained to place temporary signs throughout the Village. The permit is requested three weeks before NA Days up until the Sunday of NA Days. Those signs are then taken down by Monday. Nadler asked if businesses could get a special permit. Trustee Herlihy said the question is if a temporary reader board, like North Aurora Days, can be used by a business and set in the public right of way. Herlihy said that no temporary signs are allowed for private enterprise placement in the public right of way. Herlihy also noted that North Aurora Days is a public activity. Village President Hansen said that the sign ordinance has been in effect for 15 years and occasionally is reviewed. A private enterprise is allowed to get a permit three times a year. Village President Hansen said he would discuss this with the Board and get their feedback, as well as, possibly reviewing the sign ordinance. Nadler asked if a special permit for a private business would be out of the question. Hansen said that as the ordinance is currently written, the special permit would not be allowed.
