National Night Out – 6:00

August 5, 2014

Tuesday, August 5th, is the date set aside for our “National Night Out” celebration. This year, more than 32 million people, in more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases world wide are expected to join forces. Billed as America’s Night Out Against Crime, National Night Out is designed to, (1) Heighten crime and drug awareness; (2) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations; and, (3) Send out a message that the neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 6 to 9:30 p.m. on August 5th, residents and business people throughout North Aurora, and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside lights, and spend the evening outside with their neighbors. Many neighborhoods celebrate National Night Out with events and activities such as block parties, cookouts, and get-togethers. While turning on your lights is an important part of National Night Out, the real lasting benefits come from getting out and meeting your neighbors. We are asking everyone in North Aurora to join 10,000 other communities across the country in this years National Night Out celebration.
Police officers, squad cars, and McGruff the Crime Dog will stop and visit with as many neighborhood groups as possible. Please contact Officer Robyn Stecklein at (630) 897-8705, ext. 716 or email at to be added to our list.

Whether or not your group plans any activities for National Night Out, remember to turn on your outside lights from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on August 5th, and spend the evening outdoors. Remember, National Night Out is not the solution to the crime problem, but it is a step toward developing the sense of community necessary to reduce the risk of crime.
