Government 101 – Local Government Education Program
The Village’s “Government 101” Education Program will be scheduled for six consecutive Thursday evenings, beginning October 12, 2017 through November 16, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The program is free and open to residents 16 and older. This program will be fun and informative and will provide an opportunity for residents to understand how the Village operates. The weekly classes will include specific information on each of the Village Departments. Some of the topics that will be included each week will be:
Administration: Government Structure; Strategic Planning; Communication with Residents; Working with other Taxing Entities; and Branding;
Finance: Budget; Financial Status; Funding of Services; the State’s impact on the Village; Understanding Property Taxes
Community Development: Planning; Zoning; Economic Development; Building/Permitting; Code Enforcement and Property Maintenance
Public Works: Water Operations; Sewer; Storm Water; Engineering; and Fleet & Facilities
Police Dept.: Department overview; Hiring procedures/training program; Criminal law / traffic law / juvenile law; Major crimes/SWAT; and Crime prevention/C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team)
There is no cost to participate in this program, however, class size will be limited so registration will be on a “first come/first serve” basis. Registration forms will be available at the Village Hall or you can download a Registration Form here.
Registration forms will be due on Monday, September 18, 2017 by 4:30 p.m. Please submit registration forms to the attention of: Cindy Torraco, Village of North Aurora, 25 E. State St. or by e-mail to ctorraco@northaurora.org with the subject line: Government 101.
