Public Works Director
The Village of North Aurora, population 16,760, has an exciting opportunity for public works professionals. The Village is currently seeking candidates for the newly created, full-time position of Public Works Director. North Aurora is a family friendly community, located along the scenic Fox River in Kane County with excellent access along the I-88 corridor. The total current operating and capital project-related budgets under the supervision of the Public Works Director are approximately $9.5 million. The Village has a long history of providing quality, responsive services to residents and the public and a commitment to funding infrastructure and capital improvements.
This position is responsible for overseeing the Public Works Department, which as newly re-organized includes both the Streets Division and Water Division, with each Division managed by a separate Superintendent. The Public Works Director is responsible for planning, organizing and providing public services including streets and sidewalk maintenance, parkway tree maintenance, street lighting, stormwater management, vehicle, equipment and facility maintenance, coordination of the annual road improvement program and other capital projects with outside consulting engineers, water production, water distribution and treatment, facility maintenance, snow and ice control, in-house coordination of various capital projects and contract procurement and administration. Position works closely with outside agencies, elected officials and other governmental units. The Village provides sanitary sewer conveyance, with sanitary sewer treatment provided separately by the Fox Metro Water Reclamation District.
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field. A professional engineering license or Masters in Public Administration is preferred. At least seven (7) years of related experience in the public works and/or engineering fields required. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered. The current salary range for this exempt position is $94,636 to $133,900 DOQ. This position reports to the Village Administrator. Residency within the Village limits is not required.
