Code Enforcement Officer
The Village of North Aurora, Illinois (Population 16,760) located in Kane County is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time, non-exempt position of Code Enforcement Officer. This position reports to the Director of Community and Economic Development and is responsible for working with citizens and business owners to resolve issues that impact the health, safety and quality of life in the Village of North Aurora, including violations of the Property Maintenance Code, Zoning Ordinance and various other Village Ordinances. Performs field inspections and re-inspections to determine compliance with zoning, property maintenance, building code, site development requirements, stormwater management, health safety, state and county codes, as well as other pertinent codes as assigned. Recommends corrective action to achieve code compliance and issues notices of violation and citations in accordance with Village code, if necessary. The position generally works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm although some occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Qualified candidates must possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships with various elected Village officials, various departments within the Village, local business community, and the general public; familiarity with municipal codes and operations.
The ideal candidate will have two to five years’ experience in a municipal code enforcement, zoning, building position or related field and either possess or have the ability to obtain ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within one year of hire. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
The annual salary range for this position is $52,874 to $75,197. The hourly rate range for the position is $25.42 to $36.15 per hour. Starting hourly rate is dependent on qualifications. The Village offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, life insurance, vacation leave, holiday leave, sick leave, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). The position is a non-exempt position under FLSA and eligible for overtime. There is no residency requirement for the position.
