Lead Water Operator
The Village of North Aurora, population 17,441, seeks to fill the vacancy in the full-time position of Lead Water Operator in the Water Division of the Public Works Department. North Aurora is a family-friendly community located along the scenic Fox River in Kane County and conveniently located along Interstate 88. This position reports to the Water Superintendent and is a supervisory position overseeing two Water Laborers.
This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Water system’s production and treatment facilities. The Village maintains two hydrous manganese oxide (HMO) radium removal water treatment facilities, five deep wells (four active) and three water towers (two active). The Village is in the process of building two new deep wells and one new water tower over the next two years to increase production redundancy and storage capacity. The position is also responsible for obtaining water samples as mandated by state and federal guidelines and IEPA report preparation and compliance. The position supervises Water Laborers who are responsible for distribution tasks such as meter read collections, repair of remote meter reading equipment and water meter installation and repair and other distribution tasks as well as assisting in those areas when needed. Position may assist with snowplowing if needed, repair water main breaks and be able to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Position also monitors and operates systems through the Village’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and may also do so after hours as needed and assigned.
Position requires possession of a valid Class “B” water operator’s certificate as issued by the IEPA or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable time period, and a Class B-CDL. Position requires a high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by two (2) years of college coursework or Associate’s Degree in a related field, and at least four (4) years of experience in water treatment plant operations, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is $30.35 to $40.47 with a step system. Starting rate dependent on qualifications and experience. The position is represented by The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150 and is eligible for overtime opportunities, on-call pay and compensation for work performed after hours as needed and assigned. Successful candidates must reside within a twenty-five (25) mile radius of the Village.
