AUDIENCE COMMENTS
Marcia Watkins, 240 Kathryn Lane, North Aurora – Ms. Watkins noted the article regarding Walmart that she sent to the Village Board. Watkins explained that bringing Walmart into the community would be a step backwards for the Village. Watkins said that Walmart does not meet the needs of the community and noted that statements from Walmart show that Walmart’s target audience is low income families. Watkins asked the Board to bring in services, shopping and dining that would meet the needs of North Aurora. Watkins said this type of store on the proposed property would impact at least 144 households. Watkins said that three different real estate agents were contacted and predicted a $2,880,000 hit in the property values of the homeowners of Waterford Oaks. Watkins said that “the opportunity cost of having a store that is known for stagnated retail right now and for tapering sales by its 5th and 6th year doesn’t warrant kicking the knees out from the homeowners that are most affected.”
