What a busy year 2024 was! We had so many awesome things happen in the Village and we want to thank everyone – our residents, business owners, our staff and Village Board members – for being a part of it.
We created even more fun ways to bring our community together with a host of new special events – including our very first Creativity at the Crossroads arts and craft fair and a few new scavenger hunts including one that highlighted amazing North Aurora businesses — and of course the returns of annual favorites.
To highlight a few of those we rocked out on July 3rd to live music and fireworks to celebrate Independence Day, enjoyed even more amazing bands and entertainments at this year’s North Aurora Days, and we loved our Cuisine at the Crossroads food truck festival so much we brought it back twice! Cruise Night roared back into town and we had a magical movie night in the park. Making Spirits Bright gets bigger and brighter each year and this year we added a community tree grove put together by local businesses and organizations to really make the park sparkle.
And while we obviously love our big community events, we had plenty of smaller ones throughout town as well. I was on the move all around town hosting ‘Meet with the Mayor’ events at a bunch of our beautiful parks. The North Aurora Police Department put on ‘Popsicles with the Police’ for a fun summer snack and also visited neighborhoods all around town during National Night Out. We hosted a total of two community garage sales (stay tuned for information on the spring one!) and also held a Government 101 class to educate the community on the various departments in the Village.
As always, the Village strives to improve the quality of life for our residents by maintaining and updating our infrastructure. Our annual road program saw 3.25 miles of road completely resurfaced and maintained and we saw several projects involving sewers and water mains completed. We have made great progress in our lead service line inventory program and will be working with affected homes in the upcoming years to safely replace those lead lines. Construction began on the Village’s new Public Works facility and it is expected to be completed in early 2026.
And we’d be remiss not to mention the influx of growth happening in our town. We’ve had a number of restaurants and businesses open in town – including Café del Sol, Fortunato Fish & Oyster, Slick City, Riverfront Ram Truck Center, RD Barbershop, La Michoacana, SAGE Event Space, and El Cornel. It’s been pretty busy on the residential side of things too as the final homes were built in the Lincoln Valley subdivision, the Seasons of North Aurora finished construction, Moose Lake subdivision is currently working on phase III and ground was broken in the new Autumn Ridge subdivision.
Thanks for a great 2024, North Aurora! Let’s make it even more amazing in 2025!
Sincerely,
Mayor Mark Gaffino
