NAPD Responds to Fatal Vehicle Accident

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 4:45pm North Aurora Police Department officers responded to the area of Airport Road and Overland Drive for a single vehicle accident. The vehicle, a 2007 BMW, had been traveling eastbound on Airport Road and ran off the road and struck a tree near Overland Drive.
Responding officers located two male occupants in the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Nariman Khatamov, male/white, dob 11/19/94, was conscious, but the male passenger appeared unconscious and did not appear to be breathing. Officers performed lifesaving measures before paramedics arrived on scene. The male passenger was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Khatamov was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and has been charged by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office with the following: 2 counts of aggravated DUI (felony), 1 count of reckless homicide (felony), 2 counts of aggravated DUI no valid driver’s license (felony), 2 counts of aggravated DUI no insurance (felony), 1 count of aggravated use of electronic communications (felony) and two counts of obstruction (misdemeanor). Khatamov is currently in custody at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, awaiting trial.
 
Charges are not proof of guilt. The defendant listed in this release is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial, at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
