As we are encountering our first larger snowstorm of the season, here are a few reminders for the community for snow operations.
Safety is our first and foremost priority. During the height of the storm – be it snowfall or blowing, drifting snow that we are expecting tomorrow – we ask that drivers avoid being on the roadways whenever possible.
𝐒𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 and levels of traffic. Priority streets are plowed first followed by secondary streets that collect and distribute vehicle traffic between the local street system and priority streets. Cul-de-sacs, alleys, dead ends and sidewalks will be plowed last, as they are the least traveled.
There is 𝐧𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 on Village streets. The Village of North Aurora strives to clear our roads of snow and ice as quickly and safely as possible and vehicles parked on the streets can impede the process. Parking tickets can and will be issued to vehicles that are parked on the streets and following such if the vehicle is not removed it may be and towed at the owner’s expense. Please do your part to both avoid a penalty and help to keep our roads clear.
Due to concerns with continue drifting after the snowfall event and thus continued plowing, for 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 storm event those with limited garage / driveway space are welcome to park their vehicles in 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬 during the storm and move them back to their street afterwards. Please see the below map for all Village lots.
When you are clearing your driveway or sidewalks, please remember that it is illegal for snow to be dumped, shoveled, or blown into the road, as this delays the snow removal process and can cause dangerous situations.
Whenever possible, residents are asked to help the North Aurora Fire Protection District by clearing snow from around the fire hydrant on or near your property.
