Sign up for Government 101 - FREE Local Government Education Program

The Village’s “Government 101” Education Program will be scheduled for five consecutive Tuesday evenings, beginning January 5, 2021 and going through February 2, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to be held on Zoom. The program is free and open to residents 16 and older. This program will provide an opportunity for residents to understand how the Village operates.
 
The weekly classes will include information on the operations of each Village Department: Administration, Community Development, Finance, Police and Public Works.
There is no cost to participate in this program, however, registration is still required so we can gauge interest and have contact information to send Zoom meeting links to. Please email the following to nstevens@northaurora.org by Friday, December 18 at 4:30 p.m. to register:

Kane County Business Grant Program Round Two Now Accepting Applications

We’re happy to announce that Kane County is now accepting grant applications from local businesses in need of financial assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today we are launching “Round Two” of the county’s Business Grant Program. The Kane County Board appropriated $5 million for this initiative from its Coronavirus Relief Fund. Eligible businesses may apply for up to $25,000 to cover certain expenses from 3/1/2020 to 12/30/2020. (Businesses that applied under Round One are welcome to apply under Round Two.) More information, including a link to our web-based application portal, is posted on the county’s Coronavirus Relief Fund page. We’ve established a dedicated telephone number and email address for this important program and our staff are ready to field inquiries.

Finally, for businesses that would benefit from one-on-one assistance or might lack adequate technology to complete our on-line application, we are making computer and scanning technology available free of charge at our office in downtown Batavia. Please note we are making this service available by appointment only in order to ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 screening and distancing standards. Applicants will be able to bring their financial and expense documentation to our office where it can be digitally scanned for upload to our application portal.

 


Messenger Public Library Returning to Curbside Services

MESSENGER LIBRARY RETURNS TO CURBSIDE ONLY SERVICES DUE TO TIER 2 COVID RESTRICTIONS

In order to promote the safety of the community and reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Messenger Public Library of North Aurora (113 Oak St.) will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020. The library will be returning to Curbside e Holds Pickup Service during the following hours: Mondays and Fridays: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The library is no longer open to the public for inside “Grab and Go” services until further notice.

Curbside Pickup Service is available and allows patrons to reserve library materials via the online catalog on the library website. Curbside takes place in the west employee parking lot. Drive up Book returns are located on the west side of the Library.

Though the building is closed to the public, the library will continue to provide the best services possible. The community is encouraged to use the library‘s online resources including eBooks, downloadable audiobooks and databases for homework help.

The library offers a variety of virtual programs. Check our website and our event calendar for details.

The library will be posting updates and announcements regularly on messengerpl.org on social media channels. Be sure to visit these sites for up-to-date information. North Aurora Police investigating ruse burglaries targeting seniors

North Aurora, IL – The North Aurora Police Department is investigating a series of ruse burglaries that have targeted senior citizens in recent days.  A ruse burglary is when two or more suspects attempt to enter a home by distracting or confusing the homeowner(s). 

 

The first happened in the 2400 block of S. River Rd. on Wednesday, November 11th at 12:15 p.m.  A white female suspect in a small, older red pickup truck claimed to be with the electric company and told the 86 year old male homeowner that she needed to check the lines inside the home after the recent storm.  The homeowner let the suspect in and brought her to the basement where the suspect turned on a water faucet, presumably to mask her accomplice entering the home, whom she used a walkie talkie to communicate with.  The homeowner later found a file cabinet had been rifled through, but nothing appeared missing.  The suspect was described as a white female, average height wearing a mask and a hat.

 

The next incident happened in the 0-100 block of S. Juniper Dr. on Saturday, November 14th at 3:49 p.m.  Two Hispanic males in a white or silver SUV with black trim around the tires and on rear bumper told the 83 year old male homeowner that they were buying a house in the area and wanted information about the house.  Missing was jewelry and some collectible coins.  The suspects were described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’6”, wearing a brown Carhartt-type jacket and a Hispanic male, approximately 5’9”.  A surveillance video image later provided to police shows that the suspect vehicle appears to be a white, late model Ford Escape. 

 

The last incident happened in the 500 block of N. River Rd. on Sunday, November 15th at 4:00 p.m.  Two male suspects, either white or Hispanic, told the homeowners, age 82 & 83, that they were putting up a fence and wanted to show them the lot line markers.  Afterwards, the homeowners discovered approximately $25,000 in jewelry missing, including a wedding ring.  The suspects were described as a white or Hispanic male approximately in his 30’s and a white or Hispanic male approximately 25 years old.  No suspect vehicle was seen.

 

These incidents remain under investigation by the North Aurora Police Department.  Anyone with information should call the Investigations Division at (630) 897-8705, extension 758.  Anonymous tips may be left by calling (630) 897-8705 and choosing option 3.  Or call Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000 and receive a reward for information leading to a felony arrest.

Village Hall Reopening with Limited Staff on Monday, November 16

Due to a COVID-19 concern, Village Hall will be minimally staffed until further notice.
 
As such, in the event you need to submit a building permit, please do so electronically, via the Water Bill box, or they can be dropped off in the Village Hall administration side lobby.

North Aurora Village Hall Closed Starting Friday, November 6

North Aurora Village Hall will be closed starting Friday, November 6, following a Village Hall employee testing positive for COVID-19.
 
This employee had limited contact with the public at Village Hall where safety measures are in place. These include the installation of glass at Village Hall public interaction counters, social distancing markers and signage, and required mask wearing in the building.
 
Village Hall employees will be working remotely during this time and there will be no interruption to Village services. The public can call Village Hall at 630-897-8228 and conduct business via phone and / or email.
 
At this time there is no set date for when Village Hall will reopen. Please keep an eye on the Village website and Facebook for further updates.

Halloween -- Trick-or-Treating

The Village of North Aurora has received several inquiries about Halloween trick-or-treating. At this time, the Village still has suggested Halloween trick-or-treat hours, being from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday, October 31.
 
As always, whether to participate or not in trick-or-treating activities is at the resident’s discretion. Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, we do encourage residents choosing to participate to practice best safety measures to protect themselves and others. Business Interruption Grant (BIG) Program, Priority Being Given to High Impacted Businesses and Those affected by Recent Mitigation Measures

To our local businesses:

We would like to make certain our local businesses are aware of the Business Interruption Grant (BIG) program, which is a $636 million program developed by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois General Assembly to provide economic relief for small businesses hit hardest by COVID-19. BIG leverages federal funding provided by the CARES Act to help offset COVID-19 related losses for Illinois small businesses. Funding may be used to help businesses with working capital expenses, including payroll costs; rent; utilities; and other operational costs.

With the mitigations in the Kane County area, those businesses affected (that follow all criteria and are compliant with mitigation orders) will be receiving priority consideration for the grant program, as well as businesses that are considered as high impacted.

Free Leaf Disposal Dates and Information

Free Leaf Disposal

There are two options for disposal of leaves. Residents may bag their leaves in Kraft paper bags and Waste Management will pick up leaf-filled Kraft paper bags FREE on Fridays during October and November.  Please note: Yard waste (stickers required) will also be picked up on Fridays through November. After November landscape waste will not be picked up until April.

Residents may also choose to rake leaves to the curb for the Village’s free curb-side leaf pick-up.  Leaves must be raked to the parkway along the curb by 6 a.m. Monday of the pick-up week. Leaf piles should be less than 2 feet in height, must be free of foreign materials (branches, plants, rocks and landscape waste)  and raked in a row parallel to the street, at least 1 foot and no more than 5 feet back from the curb.  The village’s free leaf pick-up program will run from mid-October through late November based on the schedules outline below:

• Residents on the WEST side of the River, pick-up will begin on Mondays the week of:  Oct. 19, Nov. 2 and Nov. 16

• Residents on the EAST side of the River, pick-up will begin on Mondays the week of:  Oct. 26, Nov. 9 and Nov. 23

 The Village keeps a log of streets that have been serviced and the leaf-vactor truck will not go down streets a second time, once they have been serviced that week.  If leaves are not raked to the curb by Monday, 6 a.m. of the pick-up week, residents will have to wait for their next scheduled pick-up week or bag the leaves for pick-up.

 Residents are encouraged to park in driveways or garages during this operation, to allow better access for the leaf collection equipment.  Please keep leaves away from mailboxes, ditches, pipes and culverts.  Please note that snow, rain, below freezing temperatures or mechanical difficulties may delay or halt the curbside leaf collection program.

Village-Wide Scavenger Hunt Preview

 

The Village of North Aurora would like to invite you to its first ever Village-wide scavenger hunt! This fun event will have you traveling all about North Aurora as you solve clues and riddles to find locations throughout town. And not only do you get the thrill of solving riddles and exploring North Aurora, you could also win a prize!


Our scavenger hunt will officially start on Friday, October 16, when we will release the first clue on the Village Facebook and website. You (or you and your team!) will need to solve that riddle to uncover the next clue that will lead you to a total of TEN locations around town. Please note, all clues will be hidden on public property.


If your team solves all ten riddles and finds all ten locations you win! There will be guaranteed prizes to the first three teams to complete the scavenger hunt and any other team that successfully completes it by the final date of November 9 will be entered into a drawing for a fourth place prize. And the prizes? A giftcard to any North Aurora business in the amounts of: $100 (first place), $50 (second place), $25 (third place) or $25 (fourth place drawing).

Messenger Library Board Trustee Candidate Packets Available

The Messenger Public Library of North Aurora announces the following library trustee seats to be elected during the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election: four full-term four-year seats.

Candidate information packets will be available beginning 9:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the library's administrative offices 113 Oak St. in North Aurora. Stop by during the library's open hours. Packets are also available at North Aurora Village Hall, 25 East State Street beginning Monday, September 21.

Petitions can be circulated beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Candidates must file completed forms and petitions with the Village Clerk at the Village of North Aurora Village Hall during the filing period beginning Dec. 14 at 8:00 a.m. through Dec. 21 at 5:00 p.m.

Filing hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday December 14 – Friday, December 18, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21.

Annual Fall Clean-Up

The WEST side will be picked up on Friday, September 18.
The EAST side will be picked up on Saturday, September 19.
 
Stickers are required for all regular household garbage and yard waste, which will be picked up on the same day as the clean-up schedule.
 
Please have items out by 7 a.m. as Waste Management will run extra trucks causing pickup times to change. All non-hazardous bulk trash items will be picked up for free.
 
Following Fall Clean-Up, residents will need to use stickers on all large bulk items put out until Spring Clean-Up next year, as the free weekly bulk item pick-up program will end.

2020 Street Improvements

This week landscape restoration was completed.  In the coming weeks outstanding punch list items and pavement striping will with be addressed and scheduled.  This will be the final update for the 2002 Street Improvement Project.  Any future inquiries regarding the project can be directed to the Public Works Department.

This week the fiber optic cable installation was coordinated with our utility provider.  Work has begun on the structural steel ring and will continue next week.


North Aurora Police Introduce New Pilot Social Worker Program

North Aurora Police introduce new pilot social worker program

North Aurora, IL The North Aurora Police Department is excited to announce a new pilot program to provide a social worker as a resource to our community to help address issues that are not always criminal in nature.  This is an expansion of a longstanding partnership between our Department and the Association for Individual Development, in which A.I.D. has been providing victim services to our community for many years.

A.I.D. provides 24-hour outreach and wrap around services to victims of crime or trauma, and provides assistance to individuals that have basic physical and mental health concerns.  A.I.D. Victim Services has over 14 years experience working with fire and police departments.

A.I.D. Victim Services provides an on-call social worker to police departments for situations that cannot be resolved by police intervention alone.  Examples include sexual assault cases, suicides/homicides/deaths, fires, cases resulting in severe physical or mental trauma, domestic violence victims, and volatile parent/child conflicts.  Last year 71 clients were served through this on-call program and referrals.

In this new pilot program in place through May 2021, A.I.D. will provide a contract social worker to work in our facility roughly eight hours per week to follow up on recent callouts and officer referrals, make home visits as needed, and provide training to officers.  We are happy to introduce our social worker, Mekayla Anderson, who will typically be on duty on Tuesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.    Anderson has a Bachelor of Social Work degree along with minors in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Aurora University.  She is currently working on her Master of Social Work degree, also through Aurora University.

Some of the areas that Anderson can help the public with include accessing mental health services, crisis intervention, emotional support, funeral preparations, accessing local resources, legal advocacy, safety planning, and accessing victim’s compensation.

This new pilot program will complement our existing Crisis Intervention Team, which is comprised of officers who have received specialized training to assist community members with mental illness or who are in crisis. Anderson will work with officers to provide community members additional services and resources.

North Aurora residents who would like to make an appointment to see Anderson, should call the A.I.D. Crisis Line at (630) 966-9393, send her an email at mianderson@aidcares.org, or walk into or call the police station at (630) 897-8705 on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when she is present.

Conversations and interactions with Anderson are confidential, unless someone expresses they are going to harm themselves or someone else.  Additionally, as social workers are mandated reporters, if any child/elder physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect are disclosed, Anderson would be required to report those things.  Any other information brought to Anderson stays between her and the client.

2020 Street Improvements
The contractor is working on scheduling pavement striping and the restoration of disturbed areas on Maple, Elm, and Locust, and at locations where sidewalk was removed and replaced. It is anticipated these activities will start in the coming weeks.

Silo
This week the tree removal has been completed. Currently the general contractor is coordinating the lift rental to coincide with the delivery of the steel.  It is anticipated this will occur within the next two weeks.  Staff is also coordinating a response to a request for information from the electrical contractor.


Final Mosquito Spraying

Clarke Mosquito will be spraying the evening of Sunday, August 30. This will be the final scheduled mosquito abatement application for this year.

This week Public Works staff researched camera specifications and is working on obtaining pricing on installation.    Next week the general contractor will continue coordination with the steel fabricator and installation contractor.


Community Garage Sale

While North Aurora Days 2020 may have been cancelled, we’re happy to announce that the Community Garage Sale is still on! This yearly event is one we feel residents can safely participate in while adhering to social distancing measures and we hope everyone has a fun, safe time.

2020 Street Improvements
Friday August 21, the contractor is scheduled to complete the paving on Maple & Elm.  Next week any remaining restoration and punch list items will be addressed.

Silo
This week Public Works installed a conduit around the perimeter of the silo that will house the electrical and communication cables.  The Fox Valley Park District trimmed the brush and removed dead trees along the shared property line.  Next week the Village will coordinate the removal of the large dead tree on its property, while continuing to work with the electrical contractors to coordinate the installation of communications infrastructure to the silo.

2020 Street Improvements
This week the contractor finished all village wide hot-mix asphalt driveway patches, finished all curb and gutter on Maple & Elm, and restored access where possible to all residents on Maple & Elm. Next week Geneva Construction plans on finishing all hot-mix asphalt driveway patches early in the week. Towards the end of the week, they plan on milling Maple & Elm, patching, and possibly taking care of all the adjustments.

Silo
This week the roofers have completed work at the top of the silo and sand the general contractor has fabricated a door for the silo.  Staff has been researching remote communications options for the lights.  Next week, Public Works will assist the electrical contractor by installing the underground conduit. 

 

 

 


Update: North Aurora Village Hall Closed Until Monday, August 17

Update: North Aurora Village Hall will remain closed through the rest of this week and will tentatively reopen on Monday, August 17. All employees will be working remotely and the public is welcome to call Village Hall at 630-897-8228 and conduct business via phone and / or email.

2020 Street Improvements
This week the contractor completed the replacement of the all of the miscellaneous concrete sidewalk replacement and the spot repairs on the 400 block of Locust.  They have also removed and replaced half of the curb and gutter on Maple and Elm to provide adequate street parking for residents while the concrete cures.  We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the residents’ patience as street parking is limited on Maple and Elm.  Next week, weather permitting, the remainder of the curb and gutter will be completed and restoration of driveways on Maple and Elm and in miscellaneous areas will continue.

Silo
This week the roofers have begun work at the top of the silo and staff has been researching remote communications options for the lights.  Next week, weather permitting, the roofers will continue their work and the electrical contractor may begin boring the electrical service.

This week saw cutting of various sidewalks throughout town has been performed, and construction layout on Locust was completed by the consulting engineer.  Next week, weather permitting, it is anticipated that the removal of concrete curb and gutter will begin on Maple and Elm.

This week the painters completed painting the silo.  They will return in the future for touch up work but are done for now.  Next week, the roofers will on site to begin the roofing and the electrician is planning on boring the electrical service.

Police Investigating Fatal Crash

North Aurora, IL – On July 20, 2020 at 8:31 a.m., officers of the North Aurora Police Department were dispatched to Mitchell Rd. at Bilter Rd. on the Village’s east side for a traffic crash.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a red Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 49 year old North Aurora woman was traveling southbound on Mitchell Rd. and attempted a left turn onto Bilter Rd and struck a green GMC Sierra pickup, driven by a 35 year old Aurora man, which was going northbound.

The driver of the Elantra was pronounced deceased on the scene and the passenger, a 67 year old North Aurora man was transported to Delnor Hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics and later airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the GMC was not injured.

The names of the involved drivers and passenger are being withheld at this time, pending the notification of next of kin.  No citations have been issued and there is no indication of drugs or alcohol being involved at this time.  The crash remains under investigation.

Mitchell Rd. was closed to traffic for approximately 3.5 hours while investigators documented the scene.  The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART) and the Aurora Police Department Traffic Division assisted with the on scene investigation and the North Aurora Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management provided traffic control assistance.

This week, all of the water services have been installed on Maple and Elm.  Next week the hydrant on the old main will be removed, and the old main will be disconnected and capped.  Weather depending, Geneva Construction may begin concrete removal work.

The painters continue to perform patching on the exterior of the silo. In addition the concrete conditioning coat has been applied to about 35% of the exterior of the silo.

Messenger Library to Reopen with “Grab & Go” Service

Messenger Library to Reopen with “Grab & Go” Service Starting Monday July 13 

The Messenger Public Library of North Aurora (MPL) 113 Oak St. plans to reopen to the public with reduced services and hours beginning Monday, July 13, with several changes in place for the safety of the community and library staff. MPL’s “Grab & Go” service will include browsing and material check out. Hours of operation: 

Monday & Friday:  9:00 A.M. – 5 P.M.

Tuesday & Thursday:  1:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.

Saturday:  9:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.

Closed:  Wednesday & Sunday

Cardholders will be able to check out library material and place holds. Patrons will be counted as they enter the building as capacity will be limited. Face coverings / masks will be required to enter and use the Library. Those in line will be asked to wait once capacity is reached. Study rooms, meeting rooms, laptops and seating will be unavailable. Public computers will be spaced six feet apart, will require reservations of up to 2 hours, and will be limited to one reservation per day.  Toys and computers have been removed from the Youth area.

In following with the Illinois Department of Health guidance for reopening public spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic, face coverings will be required for all library staff and patrons over the age of 2. Contactless services will be available for those who cannot wear masks. Patrons will be asked to limit their time in the library, and keep any staff interaction to under 10 minutes. Six feet of distance must be maintained. MPL also asks that patrons stay home if they or a member of their family is currently ill.  

Book Returns
The library book drops, located on the west side of the building, are open. Oversized or fragile materials should be returned inside the library. Returned materials continue to be quarantined before they are checked in. No fines will be charged until further notice.

Curbside Pickup

Limited curbside pickup hours will be available. Call the library during open hours to get more information. Only requested items can be picked up curbside. Cardholders may place requests through their online library account or by calling 630-896-0240 during library hours. See Curbside Pickup for details.

Well Number 8 & 9
This week Village Staff met with the consulting engineer to develop a plan to address the electrical issues at Well 9 and address the substantial completion date of the project.

Maple and Elm Water Main
As of Friday morning 16 houses on Elm have had their water services replaced.  It is possible by the end of the day that all the services on Elm will be replaced and the excavation of a few on Maple street may begin. Next week the replacement of services on Maple Street will continue.

2020 Street Improvements
After the water services are installed on Maple and Elm, the road program will resume on these streets beginning with removal and concrete work.  At that time punch list work, sidewalk replacement, and a drainage improvement on Locust will also begin.

Silo
Monday limbs were removed from a tree obstructing access to the silo.  Tuesday, the painters completed the power washing of the silo and have begun the restoration work.  Restoration work will continue next week.

This week Village Staff continued collecting and preparing information for the IEPA to issue an operating permit.  Wednesday the IEPA issued verbal approval for both wells.  

Maple and Elm Water Main
Both streets have passed their chlorination testing.  This week the contractor was delayed by the weekend rain and the short week for the holiday. Water services installation will begin on Elm Street next week.   

2020 Street Improvements
This week Geneva Construction completed paving and restoration on April, Arrowhead, Briar, Dee, and Laurel.  A list of punch list items are being compiled for the contractor.

Maple and Elm will occur after the water main replacement project is complete.

Silo
The demolition contractor completed the removal of items from the interior of the silo and the removal of the Christmas tree from the top.  Tree trimming of trees in the area is scheduled for Monday.   The concrete restoration is also scheduled to start Monday.  


Illinois Business Grants and Assistance Programs

The State of Illinois recognizes the immense burden the COVID-19 crisis has placed on many businesses across our state, with many facing a disproportionate impact due to their inability to operate, loss of revenues or recent property damage due to civil unrest. As part of a broader $900M community and business assistance program announced by Governor Pritzker on June 17, DCEO will make available two new business assistance programs. These programs will direct working capital to help businesses recover quickly – with capital funds to help businesses sustaining damages restore and repair.

Free Bulk Item Pick-Up Options

Did someone say free bulk item pick-up?

We know many of you have been missing the annual Spring Clean-Up, which Waste Management postponed due to COVID-19 safety concerns. For our clean-up events, Waste brings in additional trucks just for bulk items that generally have more than one driver per truck and given circumstances they have not been able to safely do so. And while at this time Spring Clean-Up is officially cancelled, last night the Village Board approved an agreement with Waste Management to offer an alternative so that our residents can still dispose of bulk items for free.

Starting this Friday, June 19, and going through the Fall Clean-Up date (September 18 and September 19), Waste Management is offering the following options for North Aurora residents:

• Sticker customers – (1) bulk item OR (1) additional refuse container per week with no sticker required (the first refuse container must have a sticker)

• Flat rate cart customers – (1) bulk item OR (1) additional refuse container per week with no sticker required

We thank you all for your patience as we worked with Waste Management to find a safe alternative to our Spring Clean-Up.


Executive Order Extending Outdoor Dining Hours

Today the Mayor has issued an Executive Order that now allows North Aurora dining, tavern and brewpub establishments to operate their outdoor dining areas for extended hours.

Establishments can now operate on Monday – Thursday from 10am – Midnight; and on Friday and Saturday from 10am – 1am the next day.

Previously under Executive Order 2020-05-22, establishments could only operate until 10pm on all days.

Village Hall and Police Department Lobbies Reopening on Monday, June 15

The Village of North Aurora plans to re-open the Village Hall and Police Department lobbies to the public on Monday, June 15. Though Village employees have been working during this time, both lobbies have been closed in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
 
The Village has taken safety measures in re-opening, including the installation of glass at Village Hall public interaction counters, social distancing markers and signage. In order to enter Village Hall all visitors will be required to wear a mask and to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
 
Almost any service provided to residents at Village Hall can be conducted over the phone or via online services, so we do encourage the public to continue to do so to minimize risk. Please visit our website at www.northaurora.org or call Village Hall at 630-897-8228.
 
Village Hall is open Monday – Friday from 8am to 4:30 pm. The Police Department lobby is open Monday – Friday from 7am to 10pm.

Well Number 8 & 9 Well Electrical Work
This week Village Staff has been working on collecting information necessary to prepare applications for operating permits for each well.  Next troubleshooting the electrical work on Well #9 will continue.

Maple and Elm Water Main
This week Maple Street achieved passing samples.  Over the weekend samples will be tested for Elm Street. As early as next week construction could start on the water services.  During the installation of water services the parkway in front of residents’ homes will be disturbed.

2020 Street Improvements
This week Geneva Construction finished all concrete work and flow line adjustments, with the exception of Elm Ave and Maple Ave. Next week Geneva Construction plans on milling Monday starting with Arrowhead Street and continuing to Laurel Drive and Dee Road, leaving Briar and April Lane for last. Landscaping is scheduled to start some time middle of next week after binder has been placed. During the milling and paving operations, when the construction is occurring in front of a home, the driveway may not be immediately accessible.  However the operation is a continuously moving one, so the inconvenience will be minimal.

Street construction on Maple and Elm will occur after the water main replacement project is complete.

Silo
This week, staff met with the Construction Manager and discussed the limited demolition that already took place.  Next week staff will prepare an area to place lifts for future construction activities.

Dam Removal Project
The IDNR has contracted with a consulting engineering firm that will be performing a wetland delineation in the area immediately surrounding the dam next week.  Residents who have property that may be impacted will be notified.


Curbside Delivery of Materials at Messenger Public Library Starts

The Messenger Public Library (113 Oak St. North Aurora) will begin the curbside delivery of materials Tuesday, June 9th to North Aurora resident cardholders. Details on curbside delivery service is available via the following link: messengerpl.org/curbside-holds-pickup-service.

 

The Library building remains closed to the public until further notice due to the pandemic limiting contact between staff and library patrons.

 

Library staff since March 16th have been working behind the scenes or at home on maintaining online virtual services (e.g. downloadablve e-books, movies, virtual online programming, etc.).

 

Patrons with questions on services are able to connect with a Library staff member via online chat.

Mosquito Spraying Begins Tonight

Heads up! Clarke Mosquito will be spraying this evening, June 5.

Executive Order Allowing for To-Go Liquor Sales

Today the Mayor has issued an Executive Order allowing North Aurora businesses with valid liquor licenses to now offer to-go alcoholic beverages for pick-up or delivery, provided they are in a closed, tamperproof container and appropriately transported for safety purposes.

Previously under Executive Order 2020-03-20, only sealed bottles and cans were approved for pick-up and delivery orders. Now appropriately packaged cocktails and mixed drinks may also be available. This Executive Order is intended to help support our local dining establishments and we can all raise a glass to that!

As our community is likely aware, there have been a number of escalating situations in our area since yesterday. I would like to assure you that the Village of North Aurora is constantly monitoring these situations so we can best respond to protect both our residents and our businesses.

We firmly believe everyone has the right to free speech and to protest peacefully. Safety for all those in our community remains our number one concern and as such you may see an increased police presence. Our police are here to protect and serve the North Aurora community, but to assist them and for your own safety I do ask that if possible you please at this time avoid making any unnecessary trips to any higher trafficked areas.

Well Number 8 & 9 Well Electrical Work
This week consultants, contractors, ComEd, and Village Staff have been working on troubleshooting electrical issues at Well 9. We are awaiting operating permits for both wells from the IEPA.  Next week the electrical issues will continue to be evaluated.

Maple and Elm Water Main
This week the installation of the water main was and pressure testing was completed on Maple and Elm Streets.  The mains were chlorinated and samples are being taken to the labs.  Next week, after the water achieves passing results, construction will start on the water services.

2020 Street Improvements
The project started on May 22, 2020 and continued this week with saw cutting and removal of concrete sidewalk and curb on the Dee, Laurel, Briar, April, Arrowhead.   Resident notifications are being distributed to those residents whose driveways will be impacted by construction.  Next week concrete removal will continue and these areas will be framed for concrete to be poured back later in the week.

Street construction on Maple and Elm will occur after the watermain replacement project is complete.

Silo
The contract for the Silo Illumination and Restoration project was awarded at the May 18, 2020 Village Board meeting.  The electrical supply for the project is waiting for connection from ComEd.

 


Village Hall and Police Department Tentatively Reopening to Public on June 15

 

The Village of North Aurora Village Hall and Police Department front lobby will tentatively be reopening to the public on Monday, June 15.

With the State of Illinois moving into Phase Three, the Village is looking to reopen Village Hall and the Police Department front lobby so we may continue to best serve our community. Safety for both Village staff and the public is of the utmost importance and as such the Village is currently preparing appropriate measures in order to safely open for all, which includes the installation of glass at Village Hall front counters.

Executive Order Allowing Dining Establishments to Expand Outdoor Dining Options Once Phase 3 of Restore Illinois Plan Begins

Today the Mayor has issued an Executive Order allowing North Aurora restaurants, bars and breweries to have expanded opportunities for outdoor dining once Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois Plan begins, which could be as early as May 29.

This Executive Order is intended to help support our local dining establishments and safely begin to re-integrate dining back into our community. Outdoor dining may be allowed under the conditions set forth in the Executive Order.

This Executive Order applies to all North Aurora’s dining establishments and allows for them to expand their current outdoor eating areas and will also give dining establishments without current outdoor dining areas the ability to put up temporary outdoor dining areas.

We certainly hope that this Order will both help our dining establishments, who we know have been affected by COVID-19, and allow our community to safely enjoy themselves and support some of our local businesses at the same time.

2020 Streets Improvement Project Notice

Dear Sir or Madam,

The 2020 Streets Improvement Project will begin saw cutting as early as May 22, and continue on Tuesday May 26, weather permitting.  The reverse side of this letter shows a map of the area impacted. This letter provides important information about the project activities, the project schedule, and contact information if you have questions or concerns. Periodic project updates, progress, and schedule will be available at http://northaurora.org/ starting May 29.  We apologize in advance for the inconvenience this project may temporarily have on your neighborhood.

Project Activities.
This year the work will be performed by Geneva Construction and their sub-contractors. The project will consist of the removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement, the removal and replacement of hazardous and deteriorated sidewalk and curb, the installation of and repair of some storm sewer, and the restoration of the areas that are disturbed by the construction activities.   During this project the Village of North Aurora will try to minimize your inconvenience. Please place garbage out on Thursday evening because Waste Management may come early Friday morning for pick-up. Mail delivery will not be interrupted and emergency response vehicles will have access at all times.

When the road surface is milled, a displacement (bump) will be created between your driveway and the street.  Immediately after this operation the contractor will ramp your driveway temporarily to provide access. If the curb in front of your driveway is painted for replacement, you will not be able to access your driveway until it has cured approximately 4 days to a strength to support vehicular traffic. The contractor will notify you in advance so you can get vehicles you need to use out of the driveway. The contractor will generally work between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., however they are allowed by ordinance to from work 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. During this time cars shall not be parked on the street.

Traffic Control.
You will notice traffic control devices like barricades, construction barrels, and signs erected to direct traffic. Please pay careful attention to flaggers, signs, barricades and drive slowly with caution. 

Project Schedule.
The project is scheduled to begin May 22, 2020 with the installation of traffic control, and follow with saw cutting concrete repairs, sewer repairs, milling, patching, adjustments, asphalt paving and then parkway restoration. We anticipate the project will be completed by August 28, 2020.  Check the Village web site for project schedule updates. http://northaurora.org/

North Aurora Independence Day Fireworks and North Aurora Days 2020 Have Been Cancelled

After much consideration and discussion, the Village’s Independence Day Fireworks and North Aurora Days 2020 have officially been cancelled.

These decisions were not made lightly. All of us here at the Village love putting on both the Independence Fireworks and North Aurora Days and we know both are events the community looks forward to each year. However, for the health and safety of our residents, our staff and our community, and the current timeline surrounding COVID-19, we will not be able to host  these events this year.

We thank you all for your understanding and support in this matter. We look forward to celebrating North Aurora Days 2021 with you all and hope you have a safe and festive Fourth of July!

Census 2020 Update

From the Messenger Public Library: 

Thank you to the 72.5% of North Aurora households that have responded to the 2020 Census! This outpaces both the state and national response rates.

If you are part of the uncounted 27.5%, here's why completing your 2020 Census form is so important: Your participation will inform decisions about federal funding for North Aurora’s library, schools, roads and more. Every uncounted person reduces the amount of funds that will be directed to our community for the next ten years. The data you provide to the Census Bureau is highly secured. The U.S. government will not release personally identifiable information about an individual to any other individual or agency until 72 years after it was collected. 2020 data will not be available until 2092.

Waste Management Resumes Pick-Up of Bulk Items; Spring Clean Up Still Postponed

Been itching to get rid of those large, bulk items from your spring cleaning? Good news!

Waste Management will be resuming the collection of bulky items beginning the week of May 11, 2020. Bulky items include furniture, mattresses, carpet and appliances.

Waste Management respectfully asks that residents with a large amount of bulky items adhere to the volume limits in their community and place these items out over time. This will help their drivers and collection teams complete all essential waste and recycling collection services each week.

For reference, items 50 lbs and under require one Waste Sticker per item. Items 51 pounds and more require four Waste Stickers per item.

There is no new Spring Clean-Up scheduled at this time, but the Village of North Aurora is working with Waste Management to possibly reschedule in the near future.


NOW AVAILABLE: COVID-19 Emergency Grant Assistance for Small Businesses in Kane, Kendall, and DeKalb Counties

The Kane County Office of Community Reinvestment is pleased to announce that it is now accepting grant applications from small businesses facing financial impacts from the COVID-19 emergency. The program, which is funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, aims to provide assistance to small businesses in order to avoid layoffs due to Illinois Executive Order 2020-10 (COVID-19 Stay-at Home Order).

Funds from this reimbursement-based program will be used to help eligible businesses mitigate layoffs and adhere to “social distancing” provisions established by state and federal public health authorities. It is not intended to duplicate other types of assistance available from federal, state, or local government. Individual awards under the program may range from $5,000 to $50,000 per employer/physical location. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Businesses located outside Kane, Kendall, and DeKalb Counties are encouraged to request contact information for their county’s local workforce development office.

Crackfilling Project Beginning Week of May 3

Weather permitting the Village crackfilling project will begin the week of May 3.

Crackfilling is a preventative maintenance technique performed on the roads. It seals cracks and prevents water from entering the pavement and accelerating its deterioration. The operation will begin with the contractor using compressed air to blow debris from the cracks to clean them. Next, the crackfilling material is placed in the crack to seal it. The material only needs 15-20 minutes to cool so that traffic can again drive down the streets. Please obey the traffic control devices and the flaggers working in the construction work zone.

At the conclusion of the Village-wide project, a street sweeper will collect the debris that was blown from the cracks. The locations for the proposed work can be found in the below lists and maps.

Village Hall Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19; Village Precautionary Measures

A Message from Mayor Dale Berman

Dear North Aurora Community,

The Village of North Aurora would like to inform the community that an employee of the Village tested positive for COVID-19.

This employee works at Village Hall, which has been closed to the public since March 18th and will remain closed through April 30th per the Governor’s Stay-At-Home Order. This employee has not had contact with the public during this time nor staff since April 7th. In an effort to keep employees safe and continue our operations, any Village employee who may have been in contact with the affected employee has been given the option to be tested. Staff will not be working in Village Hall until April 22nd unless they test negative.

During this crisis the Village has been doing all we can to protect our staff and to continue to best service our community. This has been accomplished by splitting Village Hall staff into two teams so we can guarantee that we will have staff on hand no matter what situation might arise. We want to assure you all Village employees are still working, so please call Village Hall with any questions you may have. We are here for you and we continue to serve our North Aurora community.

We would like to remind everyone to continue to engage in social distancing measures, to wear masks to protect themselves and others, and to practice all other recommended health guidelines. Stay safe!

Police Seek Public Help to Locate Missing Teen

North Aurora, IL – The North Aurora Police Department are seeking help from the public to locate a missing teen.  Madison Greene, 17, was reported missing from her North Aurora home on the morning of Monday, April 6th.

Madison was last seen at home at about 6:00 a.m. on Monday when her mother left their home at about 6:20 a.m.  When her mother returned at about 10:00 a.m., Madison was gone.  It appears that Madison packed a bag with personal items.

Madison is described as 5’10”, 135 lbs with brown eyes and black hair.  Madison attends Yorkville Christian High School in Yorkville, Illinois and has friends & acquaintances that live in Aurora and go to West Aurora High School.

 

This case remains under investigation by the North Aurora Police Department.  Anyone with information should call the Investigations Division at (630) 897-8705, extension 610.  Anonymous tips may be left by calling (630) 897-8705 and choosing option 3.

Spring Clean-Up Postponed

Due to COVID-19, Waste Management has made the decision to postpone North Aurora’s annual Spring Clean-Up, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15 & 16. This decision was made in light of health and safety concerns for both Waste Management employees, residents and the community. Regular waste collection and recycling, as well as yard waste pick-up, continues to function as normal.

The Village will be working with Waste Management to reschedule the event, if possible. If a new date becomes available, we will share that information as soon as we can. At this time, there is still a Fall Clean-Up day scheduled in September.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience.

And as a reminder, large bulk items and white appliances pick-up are still suspended during this time.  Please do not store these items outside. Outside storage of furniture, appliances, etc.is prohibited.


Messenger Public Library Closed; Information on Renewals and Digital Services

Hello, Messenger Library of North Aurora patrons and residents of the Village of North Aurora.

In response to Governor Pritzker’s stay-at-home order, the Messenger Public Library has been CLOSED since Monday March 16th 2020 and will remain CLOSED until further notice. We will re-open on a date to be determined upon the stay-at-home order being lifted and adjust our plan as the situation develops.

All Library sponsored programs for all ages, events and community meetings held at the library and all library room reservations are cancelled indefinitely and until further notice.

We recognize the need for our customers to access digital content right now and are currently focusing our resources towards digital content via our NEW Digital Library Branch onlineWe are working hard to bring you materials that you want and need during this time.

The Small Business Owner’s Guide to the CARES Act


The programs and initiatives in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that was just passed by Congress are intended to assist business owners with whatever needs they have right now. When implemented, there will be many new resources available for small businesses, as well as certain non-profits and other employers.

This guide provides information about the major programs and initiatives that will soon be available from the Small Business Administration (SBA) to address these needs, as well as some additional tax provisions that are outside the scope of SBA.

Yard Waste Pick-Up Begins

Yard Waste Pick-up resumes on Friday, April 3rd. Kraft paper bags and waste stickers are required for all yard waste pick-ups through the end of November. Brush and branches must be bundled in 4 ft. lengths not exceeding 50 lbs. and require a sticker at all times. Bagged leaves are picked up free only during October and November. Any leaves left from last summer will need to be bagged and will require a waste sticker.

SBA Offers Disaster Assistance to Illinois Small Businesses Economically Impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The entire state of Illinois is now included in the disaster declaration made by the Small Business Administration; as such, loan assistance will be available to businesses and non-profit organizations impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak.
 
According to the SBA, the loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. Disaster loans can provide vital economic assistance to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing.

SBA Offers Disaster Assistance to Illinois Small Businesses Economically Impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

 

ATLANTA – TheU.S. Small Business Administration is offeringlow-interestfederal disaster loans for working capital to Illinois small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza announced today. SBA acted under its own authority, as provided by the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act that was recently signed by the President, to declare a disaster following a request received from Gov. JB Pritzker on March 17, 2020.

 

The disaster declaration makes SBA assistance available in the entire state of Illinois; and the contiguous counties of Clinton, Des Moines, Dubuque, Jackson, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine and Scott in Iowa; Benton, Gibson, Knox, Lake, Newton, Posey, Sullivan, Vermillion, Vigo and Warren in Indiana; Ballard, Crittenden, Livingston, McCracken and Union in Kentucky; Cape Girardeau, Clark, Jefferson, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Mississippi, Perry, Pike, Ralls, Saint Charles, Saint Louis, Saint Louis City, Sainte Genevieve and Scott in Missouri; andGrant, Green, Kenosha, Lafayette, Rock and Walworth in Wisconsin.

 

“SBA is strongly committed to providing the most effective and customer-focused response possible to assist Illinois small businesses with federal disaster loans. We will be swift in our efforts to help these small businesses recover from the financial impacts of the Coronavirus (COVID-19),” said Administrator Carranza.

 

SBA Customer Service Representatives will be available to answer questions about SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program and explain the application process.

 

“Small businesses, private non-profit organizations of any size, small agricultural cooperatives and small aquaculture enterprises that have been financially impacted as a direct result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) since Jan. 31, 2020, may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred,” said Carranza.

 

“These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. Disaster loans can provide vital economic assistance to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing,” Carranza added.

 

Eligibility for Economic Injury Disaster Loans is based on the financial impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The interest rate is 3.75 percent for small businesses. The interest rate for private non-profit organizations is 2.75 percent. SBA offers loans with long-term repayments in order to keep payments affordable, up to a maximum of 30 years and are available to entities without the financial ability to offset the adverse impact without hardship.

A Message from Mayor Berman

Dear North Aurora Community,

Over the last few weeks, the Village of North Aurora has been making operational changes to mitigate the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for both our community and Village staff. At our Monday board meeting, I spoke with the Village Board in preparation for changes that may be coming as the situation continues to evolve. Today I am officially declaring a State of Emergency for the Village of North Aurora.

To be very clear, this decision is not being made due to an increased danger to the public regarding COVID-19. Declaring a State of Emergency gives the Village legal authority to operate and continue to best provide services by expanding our internal operating procedures during this very uncertain and ever changing time. 

I wish to assure you that I and the Village Board are in continuous contact with the Village of North Aurora staff and all other public agencies so we can best continue to serve you while keeping our staff and our Village safe.

Please continue to look out for one another, to engage in recommended health practices and social distancing, and be considerate, kind and patient. We are all in this together and together we will get through this.

Waste Management Suspending Bulk Item Pick-Up Until Further Notice

Waste Management is not suspending or cancelling regular garbage pick-up. All regular garbage will continue to be picked up as normal. This suspension is only in regards to bulk item collection; such as large items outside the cart and includes white good pickup.

These changes are being implemented by Waste Management for the health and safety of their staff.

The health and safety of all North Aurora residents and community is the Village of North Aurora’s highest priority. On behalf of myself, the Village Board and Village staff, we are committed to providing essential Village services while also engaging in best practices to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and protect both our residents and staff.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 8:00 am, the Village Hall and Public Works buildings will close to the public with an anticipated reopen date of Monday, April 6, 2020. The North Aurora Police Department lobby will remain open. I want to assure you, Village employees are still here and the Village is functioning so we can continue to best serve our community and provide all necessary services to residents while keeping our staff safe and preventing additional contact.

Any service provided to you at Village Hall can be done by phone or email with the exception of garbage stickers; please see the necessary contact phone numbers below so we can best assist you. Regarding garbage stickers, there are other locations throughout North Aurora that they can be purchased from; please visit our website for a full list. Items like water bills or permit fees can be paid over the phone. We will be monitoring our water bill drop box outside of Village Hall where you can also deposit permits and other documents at this time for our staff to receive and process. Village staff is available Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm electronically to assist you and answer your questions and concerns.

We are in an unprecedented time. We must all do our best to follow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, which call upon us to begin “social distancing” and limiting our exposure, as well as direction and guidance provided by both Federal and State agencies. As a local government, it is our responsibility to lead by example and help alleviate the effects from COVID-19.   We are continuing to work with the Kane County Health Department and we will continue to evaluate the situation to keep you informed as new information and updates become available.

Welcome to the North Aurora Police Department’s online reporting system.  This system allows you to easily report crimes, extra patrol requests, and crime tip reports when it’s most convenient for you.  You can even upload pictures to supplement your report.  All cases filed using the online reporting system will be reviewed by a supervisor.  Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted by a police officer or detective.  After your case has been approved and entered into our records system, the case report number will be sent to you via e-mail (when applicable).

You will receive a confirmation e-mail after submitting a report.  If you would like a copy of the report for insurance or other purposes, you can obtain a copy by completing a Freedom of Information Act request form.  Additional information on F.O.I.A requests can be found on the Village of North Aurora website.  Completed F.O.I.A. request forms can be mailed, faxed, hand delivered to the police department, or sent electronically to:  PoliceFOIA@northaurora.org

Please note: filing a false police report is a crime.

Sometimes victims of minor crimes do not report the matter to police; however, these types of incidents are still important to report. Patterns of criminal behavior can be critical to develop predictive patrols and crime prevention, which enhances the safety and security of all who live, work, visit, and pass through our community.

Officers are still available to meet with you if you would like.  This system is simply another tool to help us provide you with services in a manner that could be beneficial to you.

If this is an emergency, or if the crime is in progress, please dial 911 on your telephone to immediately report the incident.  Do not submit an online police report in these instances.

WARNING:  Before proceeding, Illinois State Law (720 ILCS 5/26-1) makes it a crime to transmit or cause to be transmitted a false report to a police officer or public safety agency.  In any instance where it is found that this has occurred, the offenders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  Dial 911 for in progress emergencies.  

 


Messenger Public Library Closed - OPEN FOR VOTING

Messenger Public Library will be closed beginning Monday, March 16 through Sunday, April 5.

The Library will be open for voting on Tuesday, March 17, but the rest of the building will remain closed.

These safety measures are being taken based on recommendation of the Illinois Department of Health regarding event cancellation and social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.


ComEd Transmission Corridor Vegetation Management Occurring in March and April

From ComEd:

During the months of March and April 2020 ComEd will begin performing regularly scheduled Transmission Corridor vegetation management activities within your area.  ComEd’s vegetation management activities are necessary to ensure the reliability of electrical service and to ensure public safety.  

 

As a public utility, ComEd has a legal obligation regarding the management of transmission corridors under both federal and state law.  The mandatory Reliability Standard FAC-003-001 has been promulgated by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), the Electric Reliability Organization certified by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) under the terms of the Federal Power Act.  FERC has approved this Reliability Standard, which prescribes requirements for vegetation management programs in 83 III. Admin. Code 411.190, and the tariff approved by the Illinois Commerce (I.C.C. No. 10 at 152), also mandates compliance with the vegetation management requirements of the National Electric Safety Code.

 

The transmission corridors in your area are composed of large steel poles or tower structures that are used to transport large volumes of electricity.  The transmission corridors are frequently located adjacent to interstate highways and railroad tracks.  ComEd owns or has express property rights to perform vegetation management in the transmission corridor area. 

 

Qualified line clearance workers contracted by ComEd perform all tree pruning and vegetation management work.  Supervisors and general foreman maintain close contact with crews to ensure safety and adherence to proper vegetation maintenance procedures.

 

Trees and bushes that grow to heights less than 10 feet, may be approved by ComEd for planting near power lines.  Trees that grow greater than 15 feet, for example maple, elm and blue spruce, should never be planted under or near power lines.  At full height, these trees could contact lines and cause a power outage or create a safety issue.

COVID-19 Resources and Information via Kane County Health Department

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise we would like to take a moment to address it and related concerns here.

The Village of North Aurora is working alongside and consulting regularly with the Kane County Health Department regarding updates and best practices to keep safe and best prevent the spread of the virus. We are continuing to monitor the situation and how it may affect our community.

The Kane County Health Department has released several resources so residents can best educate themselves on both prevention measures and identification and diagnosis of COVID-19.

Our friends at Kane County Health Department recommend and reiterate the guidelines you have already been hearing as they are the best methods to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, being:

• Wash hands often
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
• Avoid contact with sick people
• Stay home while you are sick
• Cover mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing/sneezing
• Clean in disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces


Early Voting Locations and Options

Given the current climate and health advisory to avoid group gatherings Governor Pritzker has reported there is a concern voter turnout may be light for the March 17th primary and has reached out to municipalities to spread the word about alternative voting options. Being able to exercise your right to vote is an incredibly important part of our democratic process and I want all in our community who wish to do so be able to safely take part.

 

Today, March 12, 2020, is the last day to request an absentee ballot to vote by mail. You can do so by visiting https://www.elections.il.gov/ElectionOperations/VotingByMail.aspx and scrolling to the bottom of the page and selecting “Download – Illinois Application for Vote by Mail Ballot” and following the prompts.

 

It is also encouraged to vote early as to avoid larger crowds on March 17, 2020. To see a list of all early voting locations and hours please visit https://www.elections.il.gov/VotingAndRegistrationSystems/EarlyVotingLocationsSearch.aspx and select the appropriate items from the drop-down menu.

Proclamation: Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the League of Women Voters

 PROCLAMATION

CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

WHEREAS, on February 14, 1920, the League of Women Voters (“League”) was formed at the Congress Hotel in Chicago, Illinois;

WHEREAS, the League was formed six months prior to, but in anticipation of, ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote in the United States;

WHEREAS, the League was a political experiment designed to help 20 million women carry out their new responsibilities as voters by educating them about issues;

            WHEREAS, from the beginning the League determined that it would be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing any political party or individual candidate;

            WHEREAS, the League continues today as a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy;

 WHEREAS, today the League is composed of members in over 700 local, county, and state leagues in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong;

            WHEREAS, among those state Leagues is the League of Women Voters of Illinois that was incorporated on March 22, 1920 and in turn is composed of over 40 local Leagues with almost 4,000 members;

WHEREAS, among those local Leagues in Illinois is the Aurora Area chapter that was recognized on July 25, 2019, and in turn is composed of 28 members;

WHEREAS, the League is a civic organization that has fought since 1920 to improve government and engage everyone in the decisions that impact their lives;

WHEREAS, the League will celebrate its 100th anniversary on February 14, 2020; 

       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Dale Berman, Village President, and the Board of Trustees of North Aurora do hereby proclaim February 14, 2020 as a date to celebrate the League of Women Voters and its vision of a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate. 


North Aurora Police Offer New Citizen Reporting Features

North Aurora, IL – The North Aurora Police Department is pleased to announce a new, efficient, and simpler way for the public to submit certain types of information to officers.  We have partnered with Frontline Public Safety Solutions’ Mobile Tool-Kit, which residents and businesses can use for Citizen Reporting, Vacation Watch requests, and Business and Residential Keyholder entry.

Beginning on Tuesday, January 28th, the public can go to our website https://northaurora.org/departments/police.aspx to access these features.

The Citizen Reporting portal allows users to provide police with details of incidents that do not require an immediate police response, such as reporting crime tips and requesting extra patrol or traffic enforcement.  Requestors may choose to remain anonymous when submitting these requests.

The Vacation Watch portal allows users to submit requests for officers to check their property while they are away.  Residents provide basic details of their property and the dates they will be gone.  Officers on patrol are then aware of vacant properties and can check on them periodically as call volume allows.  The resident will receive an email notifying them each time a check of the property was performed.  Vacation Watch requests may also be submitted in-person at the North Aurora Police Department, 200 S. Lincolnway.

The Keyholder portal allows residents and businesses to share contact information securely in the event of damage, break-in, or other problem that requires notification to a keyholder, which officers on patrol can access.  A yearly update will be emailed to residents and businesses to ensure information is up to date.

“We are excited to provide this tool-kit to our residents and businesses. It will make submitting Vacation Watch requests and other information more user-friendly and more efficient for our officers and staff,” said Chief of Police David Fisher.

Even though these services are convenient they are not a replacement to calling 911 for in progress crimes or emergencies or calling (630) 897-8705 to report an already-occurred crime.
