Beginning on January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act will go into effect in Illinois, which will allow for the possession and use of small amounts of recreational cannabis. The Law allows municipalities to ban recreational sales within the community, but not the possession or consumption of marijuana in a community.
At a previous North Aurora Committee of the Whole Meeting, Village staff was directed to go to the Plan Commission to discuss this Act and potential zoning regulations for recreational cannabis dispensaries should the Village choose to allow the sale of recreational cannabis.
At the upcoming Plan Commission meeting on Tuesday, September 3, information will be presented to the Plan Commission regarding the State law. It is also anticipated the local medical marijuana dispensary will present on cannabis dispensary operations.
The public is invited to provide feedback.
The Plan Commission meeting starts at 7:00 pm at Village Hall, 25 East State Street.
